NEPSE: Share amount almost doubles in 5 years

The total number of shares listed in the secondary market of the Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) has doubled in the past five years.

According to NEPSE, at the end of the fiscal year 2018/19, the total number of listed shares was 4.2 billion. The number has gone up to 8.2 billion as of March 15, 2024.

The number of shares in the market increases due to the addition of new companies, issuance of right shares, and distribution of bonus shares. The number of listed companies on NEPSE has increased from 215 to 271 in the last five years.

Although the number of shares has almost doubled, the NEPSE index has only increased by about 800 points.
