The authorized distributor for Foton, MAW Vriddhi has launched its new commercial EV, the Foton High-Roof EV Van in Nepal. The Chinese company Foton has been active in Nepal with various vehicles including Tunland pickup trucks, school vans, ambulances and commercial vehicles. The Tunland SG and Tunland E+ pickup trucks are more popular in their price range.

Foton’s combustion engine passenger van category is also popular with many models including C2, CS2 and CS2L. The EV version seems to have taken inspiration from the C2 model of the passenger van. The Foton High-Roof EV Van will compete against other electric vans currently available in Nepal like the KYC Electric Van and Thee Go Danfe electric van.

Design

Exterior

The Foton High-Roof EV Van has a similar design to most passenger vans. On the front, it has diamond headlights which have a nice throw. The fog lamps are situated below the headlight near the air vent.

Since it is electric and there is not much cooling to do so the grille near the headlights so a chrome finish is there. There is also the presence of blue accents to highlight it is electric. The ORVM or the mirrors are electric and can be folded using buttons.

On the side, the Foton Hight-Roof EV Van has a sliding door for passengers. The windows are of decent size to view the outside. The tyres are of decent size and wide for a comfortable ride. On the back, it has integrated tail lamps which give a sleek and modern look. There is also a rearview camera for easy and safe reversing.

Interior

The interior is well-furnished and modern. On the front, the driver has a dual-ring instrument panel with a small analogue screen which displays range, power, speed and gear. The instrument panel is well-lit for night time too.

There is also a screen on the front which has multimedia features and live video for the rearview camera. There are two speakers which have decent-quality sound output. The AC control is below the screen which has physical buttons and knobs.

The passenger seats are comfortable with proper stitching. They look like bucket seats of sports cars which have nice headrests. The interior is spacious with seats for up to 15 people. There are also seat belts for the passengers for more safety.

Performance

The Foton High-Roof EV Van has a Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor that generates 85 kW of power, propelling it with a maximum torque of 290 Nm. It has an acceleration of 0-80 km/h in about 14 seconds, making it well-suited for navigating city streets.

For battery, the Foton Hight-Roof EV Van uses a CATL Lithium Iron Phosphate battery with a capacity of 50.23 kWh, which gives a range of 235 km WLTP, allowing for longer trips without frequent charging. Speaking of charging, the Foton High-Roof EV Van supports both DC fast and AC slow charges. With a quick 1.5-hour DC fast charge or a 7.5-hour AC slow charge, drivers can efficiently power up the vehicle.

The charging socket, CCS 2, offers flexibility and ease of use for recharging. With front disc brakes and rear drum brakes, the van ensures reliable stopping power, adding to its safety features.

Safety and Features

The Foton High-Roof EV Van also has necessary safety features. It has a warning about open doors to prevent any accidental risks. It alerts if the key is unplugged, ensuring the van won’t start without it, and enhancing security. It is equipped with a reversing radar, which assists in safely navigating while backing up, avoiding potential collisions. The all-door central lock system guarantees that all entry points remain secure throughout the journey.
